Bitcoin : Bitpanda refuses to delete my account

I contacted BitPanda and asked them to remove my account and my personal information. They took a few days to respond, as expected, and then said they could not delete my account until after 3 years because of “defence of legal claims” which is one of the exceptions to a deletion request as stated in the GDPR. I said that they cannot just refuse to delete an account without explaining the reason for such a decision, and explained that my account has had no activity at all (I never used it) and for this reason could not possibly be relevant in any legal dispute or claim. They did not answer. I waited a few days and then said I would escalate the issue with the Austrian data protection authority if they could not elaborate or present reasonable justification for their decision, and to do this I would require a copy of all information they currently retain on me – another of my rights under the GDPR. 30 days have almost passed since my data subject access requests, as they call it, and BitPanda has still not responded to any of my requests after they said they would not delete my account.
Is this normal practice? I run a SaaS myself and I always just delete users’ information whenever they request that I do so. If any company can just go out and cite section 3.e without elaboration, then what’s the point of the right to be forgotten? I don’t understand why they don’t just comply with my request. Can anyone perhaps enlighten me?
