Blockchain : The unharvested potential
**I’ve been trying** to follow the evolution of Blockchain technology for a while now. It’s a promising idea, and with more and more people having proper internet access, and more people having a deeper understanding of computer technology in general, I see amazing potential here.
**I don’t particularly** have a problem with crypto currency per se. It’s an interesting idea, and one fine way to use the blockchain technology. If nothing else, the crypto currency systems have shown that something as volatile and difficult as a monetary system could be decentralized without necessarily sacrificing security.
**However, there is** so much more that can be done with this technology, and I barely see any experimentation on these markets. Ideas like Blockchain Contracts have been floated, but I haven’t seen them in action. Blockchain Games, which sounds like an amazing idea, have pretty much been boiled down to regular games that uses, harvests, or costs crypto currency. There are literally so many crypto currencies out there that I couldn’t name 1% of them, and most of them are essentially just a bitcoin clone.
**The Blockchain Infrastructure** is essentially a shared database system. A database is the foundation of most online infrastructure today. The additional benefit of a Blockchain is that it is decentralized, and that means it doesn’t really require Management, aside from user interactivity. So what could be done with this?
**What about** **Blockchain Social Media?** Social media today has been blasted, for good reason, for a variety of reasons, from lacking security and confidentiality, to actually being designed to create ideological echo-chambers, essentially causing a polarization of ideology and incendiary tribalism.
**Imagine a social network** that isn’t dependent on ad views for funding. Go even further and imagine a social media that isn’t even owned by anyone, and thus has no real incentive at all beyond the original designer intent. Storage, access, and processing can be distributed between users by a system of “What y’all got? Yeah I need an average of 3% of your processor to crunch my data.” The designer could set up an integrated system of rules to the system that incites good behavior, connectivity, moderation, working to uphold constructive communities, or really whatever the designer has in mind.
**What about Blockchain Companies?** A system of virtual contracts, or just a decentralized services marketplace. **What about** Blockchain infrastructure in the democratic process? **What about** Blockchain game like World of Warcraft where the server use is neatly distributed between users instead of centralized to a server hall costing the company a fortune in hosting fees?
**I guess I’m** just a frustrated kid online with nothing better to do than to complain about the not yet harvested potential of a revolutionary technology, But I’m really interested.
**What are some of the more creative ways you’ve seen blockchain technology used that may be a hint towards grand future development?**
*Thank you for reading. Y’all have a good day.*
What is the Blockchain?
A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency’s block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history.
