For a monetary system to work best, in my opinion it needs to offer simple passive income. For example FIAT in the bank pays interest, it may not be a lot, but it’s still something. And as a matter of fact, it used to be much much more back in the day (In the United States at least).

With BTC, the only passive income is for miners.. people who are tech geeks who know how to operate an ASIC miner and who have thousands of dollars to purchase these machines which turn into paper weights over time. The same can be said for LTC or any other ASIC mineable coin. Even GPU mineable coins aren’t much better. GPUs are expensive, and GPU miners must know how to build, operate and maintain GPU miners. And yes, I have owned ASICs in the past and still currently mine with GPUs, my Bitmain S9 became too expensive to run eventually.

This is why I believe Proof of Stake is the future. Users of a currency should be able to earn passive income in a simple to setup and maintain manner. A good staking coin can earn daily interest payments by simply having coins in an open wallet on a PC as inexpensive as a $15 Raspberry Pi. The problem with Proof of Stake is that the network is not nearly as secure as a proof of work network, since there is no brute force of mining power to secure the network.

What if there was a Proof of Stake coin that had the security of Proof of Work? Would this then not be the perfect currency for mass adoption? I think so, and this coin exists, it’s called Vericoin and it has a market cap of only 2 Million. Vericoin is a proof of stake currency, but it shares a chain with Verium Reserve which is a proof of work currency. Combined, you get a fast to use currency that pays daily interest for simply keeping coins in the wallet, but it is extremely secured compared to other POS coins because of the Verium Reserve mining hashpower also secures the Vericoin blockchain.
