Blockchain : IBM-Maersk alliance cut oceanic shipping times by 40%

So, blockchain tech has helped the IBM-Maersk alliance cut oceanic shipping times by a staggering 40% (according to [this article](https://www.cnet.com/news/ibm-maersk-tradelens-blockchain-alliance-cuts-shipping-times-40-percent/)). I love reading articles like this because it just shows how much blockchain technology can help in making things more efficient for businesses, customers, etc.

That being said, my question to you is whether a virtual world solely running on blockchain technology could be good for businesses operating within this digital environment because it eliminates third-parties and intermediaries? Couldn’t that help avoid various disputes and disagreements that might otherwise be present if not for this technology? So, wouldn’t this technically be better compared to dealing with transactions in the “physical world”, so to say.

What is the Blockchain?

A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency’s block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history.
