ECB will not issue its own cryptocurrency
In a letter to a European MP Mario Draghi assured that the European Central Bank has no intentions to create its own cryptocurrency. The head of the ECB mentioned that the technology needs to mature before it can be used by an institution as big as the European Union. Interesting is that Draghi made no clear statement on the matter. Earlier this year he criticized Bitcoin for being unstable money. However, he also said that it is not the ECB’s job to regulate Bitcoin. Maybe he does not know that Bitcoin was created to give people an alternative to the money monopoly of the central banks.

Vlad Zamfir releases PoC on Ethereum sharding
Coindesk announced that Zamfir achieved a “breakthrough” on the matter of sharding. The web magazine reported on Zamfir’s PoC that he made public during the recent ETH Hackathon in Berlin. However, he corrected Coindesk and said that Coindesk sensationalized the matter. Zamfir released a proof of concept on sharding. Despite his own modesty, a major achievement. As his code shows that sharding is feasible and it solves very important problems on the matter. However, he estimates that it will take at least two years until sharding can go live on the Ethereum blockchain.

City of Austin uses blockchain to help homeless people
In a one-of-a-kind project, the city of Austin uses the blockchain to tackle a common problem that many homeless people have. Many homeless persons share the problem of losing their ID-cards and other important documents that would help them to get off the street again. Austin’s solution to that is the MyPass Initiative. Homeless people can upload all their important data to a blockchain. This includes email-addresses, phone numbers, ID-cards, and other important documents. With this, the city of Austin tries to provide the very basic requirements to reintegrate homeless people into society.
