Ethereum update: Noob wants to try his hand at non-financial blockchain based hackathon project at work.

Hi-

I wanted to explore prototyping a blockchain for my supply chain company that would share certain internal statuses with our network of partners.

In other words, I don’t need any monetary exchange functionality or even triggered smart contract functionality.

What I need to do is to be able to record to a blockchain certain data points like:

{ Anonymous Person ID: 1234
Data Category: START
TIMESTAMP: 123345455}

{ Anonymous Person ID: 1234
Data Category: FINISH
TIMESTAMP: 124440000}

However, I’m not familiar enough with blockchains to understand whether it’s possible / good idea to store general data like this on the blockchain. Also, any good resources I can look at to help me build a prototype?
