Ethereum update: Ubuntu 18.04 and Claymore miner 11.8 – Success with AMD RX470/480 cards

Hey all – thought I’d share my morning grief with you all 🙂

**Hardware:**

– 2x Asus Strix RX470

– 2x Gigabyte RX480

– Intel 3570K, 16GB Ram, ASRock Z77 Extreme4, 120GB SSD et al.

Downloaded Ubuntu 18.04 – Created bootable USB with Rufus

Downloaded AMD GPU 18.20 driver – MUST INSTALL WITH `./amdgpu-pro-install -y –opencl=legacy`

Added this line to `/etc/default/grub` –> `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”amdgpu.vm_fragment_size=9″`

Download and install Claymore’s Dual GPU Miner v11.8 create your `mine.sh` script or whatever

AMD GPU driver 18.20 WORKS with Ubuntu 18.04 – OK

At least 16 GB of Virtual Memory is required for multi-GPU systems
Make sure you defined GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
Be careful with overclocking, use default clocks for first tests
Press “s” for current statistics, “0”..”9″ to turn on/off cards, “r” to reload pools, “e” or “d” to select current pool, “x” to select GPU, “z” to find best -dcri values

Hashrate is about 1MH worse than my former Win10 setup – That broke and I wanted a linux server as Windows as I’m a far better Linux user than Windows.

Anyway I hope this helps someone out there looking to do a fresh install with Ubuntu 18.04 and not feeling like a chump installing Ubuntu 16.04 which is 2 years old now 😀
