Ethereum update: Windows 7 Claymore miner 3GB DAG size

Awhile back ago I believe that mining with 3GB cards on Windows 10 was no longer possible due to Win 10 reserving more memory for display etc.

From what I know, Windows 7 should be able to support 3GB cards for longer since it reserves less memory for the display and stuff.

Recently when using Claymore miner, I am unable to get it to create the DAG (cannot create DAG on GPU error).

I’ve added the parameter -eres 0 which worked previously (when it had the same error before) but it doesn’t work now.

Does this mean that mining Eth with 3GB cards on Windows 7 is officially dead now? I’m running a GTX 1060 3GB card with 24 GB of system memory btw.

This is still on the latest Claymore miner FAQ
– I cannot mine ETH/ETC with Nvidia 3GB card in Windows 10.
Windows 10 internally allocates about 20% of GPU memory so applications can use only 80% of GPU memory. Use Windows 7 or Linux.
