Ripple : Is xCurrent a blockchain solution?

Ripple update: Is xCurrent a blockchain solution?

Something I’ve always wondered: does xCurrent use blockchain? I’ve come across different point of views on this and would love a bit of clarity. I know that it’s not necessarily significant but would love a clear answer. I used to think no, but I recently watched a video with Stefan Thomas (linked below) where he said it creates an ‘ephemeral ledger’ that is used for the duration of the transaction. Would love if someone could explain to me the process of xCurrent, why it’s desirable to companies and why it’s better than SWIFT.
