Ripple update: Transaction Fees

I’m having a difficult time understanding how to calculate transaction fees when using XRP. Does someone mind explaining it to me? Say I send 10 dollars worth of Ripple vs 1 million dollars worth of ripple. Is there simply a fixed percentage (say, 1 percent) taken for each transaction, or is it more complex than that?

Please forgive me for my incompetence and/or ignorance.
